The Web-based Systems Group participates in the W3C Linking Open Data community, an effort that loosely coordinates the extension of the Web with a data commons.
A widely-cited instrument for visualizing the progress towards building the Linked Data Web is the LOD Cloud Diagram. The diagram gives an overview of existing Linked Data sets on the Web as well as their linkage relationships.
The 295 data sets which collectively form the LOD Cloud currently consist of around 31 billion RDF triples and are interlinked by around 504 million RDF links.
We are also happy to release new statistics about the structure of the LOD cloud as well as the compliance of the data sets in the cloud with the Linked Data best practices. These statistics can be found at http://lod-cloud.net/state.
