Theses

If you are interested in macroeconomics and you want to write a thesis about a macroeconomic topic, please feel free to apply. This page will give you all the information about the application process for a thesis at the Chair of Macroeconomics and will provide you with some useful information for your planning and writing process of your thesis or seminar paper. In addition, you find templates for theses and seminar papers below



Bachelor Thesis:                                  

                                                                                                                  

If you want to write your bachelor thesis at the Chair of Macroeconomics, you need to have passed the following courses with a very good grade:

                                                                                                                                                                               

  • Macroeconomic Principles I (Grundlagen der Makroökonomie) 
  • Macroeconomic Principles II (Makroökonomie)

                                                                                                                                                                                 If you meet those requirements, please send your application via email to ls-trabandt@wiwiss.fu-berlin.de. Please make sure that you attach the following:

                                                                                                                                                                               

  • Your name and your student ID number
  • The most recent version of your transcript of records
  • The prefered start date to write the thesis
  • Your subject of study and your area of specialization
  • A short explanation why you chose your subject of study (on about ¼ page)
  • Please propose 2 potential thesis topics. Describe on 1 DIN A4 page for each of the topics:
  • 1. What are the key research questions?
  • 2. Why are these interesting questions and non-trivial to answer?
  • 3. What data will be considered and what is the empirical motivation?
  • 4. What  methods or/and model(s) will be used?
  • If you have already written a term paper during your Bachelor, please include it in your application package.

Master Thesis:                   

                                                                                                                                                        

If you want to write your master thesis at the Chair of Macroeconomics, you need to have passed the following courses with a very good grade*:

                                                                                                                                                                               

  • Macroeconomic Analysis
  • Monetary and Fiscal Policy
  • Recent Research in Macroeconomics (Aktuelle Forschungsfragen der Makroökonomie)

                                                                                                                                                                                 If you meet those requirements, please send your application via email to ls-trabandt@wiwiss.fu-berlin.de. Please make sure that you attach the following:

                                                                                                                                                                               

  • Your name and your student ID number
  • The most recent version of your transcript of records
  • The prefered start date to write the thesis
  • Your subject of study and your area of specialization
  • A short explanation why you chose your subject of study (about ¼ page)
  • All the scientific work that you have already written during your studies (term papers, bachelor thesis, etc.)
  • A short synopsis describing
  • Topics in your courses that you found particularly exciting
  • Remarks about the topic you want to deal with in your master thesis
  • Please propose 2 potential thesis topics. Describe on 1 DIN A4 page for each of the topics:

  • 1. What are the key research questions?
  • 2. Why are these interesting questions and non-trivial to answer?
  • 3. What data will be considered and what is the empirical motivation?
  • 4. What  methods or/and model(s) will be used?

*Exceptions will be considered in a case by case basis.

Templates for theses and seminar papers

Here you find German and English templates for your thesis or seminar paper for Microsoft Word, LaTeX and LyX. Please notice that referring to those templates is optional and not mandatory. Please be aware that the templates are made up for two-sided documents. So please be sure that you use double side printing (duplex) when printing out your work.
