An MBA or MBM degree can be a big investment in your career or future. During this time, you need to balance your job, family and studies. This can be challenging. Consequently, the duration of a Master's program can be decisive for you when choosing a course of study. In this blog post, we would therefore like to give you some general information about the basic duration of MBA and MBM programs.
The duration of the MBA or MBM studies is not uniformly regulated. While a few years ago it was clear that two-year MBA programs are increasingly offered in the USA and that one-year programs tend to take place in Europe, today the diversity of master's programs is significantly greater. Basically, however, you can note a few differences.
Full-time and part-time programs
The classic American MBA usually lasts two years as a full-time program. There are also accelerated variants that last between 12 and 18 months. In Europe, comparable full-time programs often take one year. In addition to full-time programs, there are also part-time or extra-occupational programs. In contrast to an online course of study, your presence at the place of study is required here. Students can study alongside work or on weekends. These programs usually last two to three years and can sometimes extend over five years, depending on the structure.
Distance and online programs are basically also designed for part-time study. Your presence is then only sporadically or not at all required. As a rule, online programs can be completed from home, but you should also expect attendance phases. Such programs last up to three years. The EMBM program is also designed as an online or distance learning course with integrated face-to-face seminars. EMBM students go through face-to-face seminars and distance learning phases alternately (more information on the structure can be found here).
Programs with and without work experience
In addition to the distinguishing features described, there are also programs for students with less work experience (up to 5 years) or people in senior management with more than 5 years of professional experience. The duration of these programs can vary greatly, as they can be designed as full-time, part-time, or distance learning studies.
Advantages of EMBM studies
Thanks to our clear focus on content, you can complete the EMBM program part-time within just one year. This means for you: Career bend and loss of earnings can be avoided. You shorten your study time by up to two years compared to less focused MBA programs, which usually last two to three years.
