Conference Format

The conference format closely follows the previous years (such as OR2016 Hamburg and OR2015 Vienna). When making your travel arrangements, please note the period Sep 5 (Tuesday) to Sep 8 (Friday), 2017. On the afternoon of the preconference day (Sep 5, Tuesday) there will be workshops and a get-together event; the front desk will be open during the afternoon until the night. The actual conference will start on Sep 6, Wednesday at 9 o'clock in the morning and close at Sep 8, Friday at around 3 o'clock in the afternoon (schedule overview).

Invited plenary and semi-plenary presentations:

The program committee, with the help of the stream chairs, have arranged a number of invited plenary and semi-plenary presentations. There will be two plenary presentations (60 minutes) and ten semi-plenary presentations (45 minutes).

Presentations within sessions:

There will be around 500 presentations that are organized in parallel sessions within thematic streams. Usually there are three 30-minute presentations (incl. discussion time) within a 90-minute session (with a few exceptions; in particular, in the case of four talks within a session each presentation should last no longer than 20-25 minutes). Presentations are selected by the stream chairs based on the submission of short abstracts (there are only oral presentations, no posters). Abstract submission is open until April 30 (using a web-based abstract submission form of the EURO conference tool). Everyone may submit a contributed abstract to a suitable stream. In addition the stream chairs will arrange invited sessions on specific topics; invited researchers use respective session codes when submitting an abstract.

The first author of an abstract is supposed to give the speech (only one presentation per person). The abstracts will be made available in a conference handbook together with the conference schedule and additional information. This requires that the presenting author has registered for the conference and that the respective payment has been received.

Lecture rooms are equipped with a computer and video-projector (and microphone if necessary). The speakers generally bring their presentation file on a USB storage device in a common format (ppt/pptx, pdf). The use of one's own computer is usually also possible (VGA connection). In case of no shows or last minute cancellations, the assigned time slot is left empty, so that all presentations start as indicated in the program.

Proceedings volume:

There will be a printed post-conference proceedings volume (to be published by Springer next year). Authors of accepted abstracts/presentations are invited to submit a 6-page manuscript until July 15 (See the Submission to Proceedings page).

Exhibition:

There will be a valuable exhibition with interested companies (Wednesday to Friday). (Please contact us if you would like to participate or to get involved in another way.)

Breaks:

The conference should provide an interactive forum. This involves discussions within the breaks.

(Semi-)Social program:

There will be a get-together event on Tuesday, a welcome reception on Wednesday, the conference dinner on Thursday, as well as tours. On a separate web page we list recommendations for your free time during your stay in Berlin.

The conference takes place from Sep 5 (Tuesday) to Sep 8 (Friday), 2017. On the afternoon of the pre-conference day (Sep 5, Tuesday) there will be workshops and a get-together event; the registration front desk will be open (14:00-22:00).

The actual conference will start on Sep 6, Wednesday at 9 o'clock in the morning and close at Sep 8, Friday at around 3 o'clock in the afternoon (schedule overview).
