Izabela Wnuk (P7) successfully defended her dissertation "Essays on Immigration, Population Aging, and Labor Markets" with summa cum laude at FU Berlin on July 15, 2025. 

She was supervised by Peter Haan and Jan Stuhler.

July 8, 2025:

Aiko Schmeißer successfully defended his dissertation "Political and Racial Dynamics in the Labor Market“ with summa cum laude at University of Potsdam on July 8 , 2025. He was supervised by Marco Caliendo and Thomas Siedler. In November 2025, Aiko will join the Center for Political Economy at Columbia University as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar.


July 4, 2025:

Lisa Hanzl defended her dissertation on “Essays in Labor Economics: Public Policy's Impact on Education, Employment, and Gender” at FU Berlin on July 4, 2025. The thesis, which received a grade of “summa cum laude,” was supervised by Jan Marcus (Freie Universität Berlin) and Gregory Gilpin (Montana State University).


June 27–29

We are proud to announce that Thomas Siedler (University of Potsdam) has received the Best Poster Award at the Sixth World Labor Conference (Toronto, June 27–29) for his co-authored study “A Library in the Palm of Your Hand? A Randomized Field Experiment with Low-Income Children.” 

Co-authors: Silke Anger, Bernhard Christoph, Agata Galkiewicz, ShushanikMargaryan and Malte Sandner.

The study, a collaboration with researchers from the IAB, University of Potsdam, and DZHW, evaluates how digital book access improves reading engagement, academic performance, and socioemotional well-being among low-income children in Germany. This work is also part of the DFG-funded research group “Labour Scarcity, Skill Mismatch, and Policy.”
