DFG-Project " PRE-CLIPS: Product Recall Classification and Impact Prediction System to Optimize Recall Procedures & Notifications"

Product failures can have serious consequences for consumer welfare and firm performance. When firms become aware of such product failures, they either voluntarily recall the product or the authorities order the recall. But too frequently product recalls are not effective. For example, a survey by the U.S. Consumer Product and Safety Commission (CPSC) in 2018 found that the overall recall effectiveness rate for consumer product recalls is rather low: more than 80% of products have not been returned, repaired, replaced, or disposed. Most buyers are still using the dangerous products which poses a threat to consumer health and to firm performance if further incidents occur, cause litigation costs, require re-announcements of the recall, and lead to further reputation damage.

This project therefore seeks to find answers to the following overarching research question: How can managers and regulators optimize product recall procedures and notifications to protect both consumer health and firm performance? The results are going to be used to create a product recall effectiveness classification and impact prediction system (PRE-CLIPS). In the future, PRE-CLIPS can enable decision makers to plan and execute more successful product recalls.

DFG-Project "Value and Social Enterprise - Valuation and Valuation Process in the Coordination of Market and Nonmarket Action"

This interdisciplinary research project has two main goals: First, it aims to clarify the possibilities opened up for the study of valuations by philosophical philosophy of value.

Second, it aims to determine the importance to be attached to sociological values, how the interplay between sociological and philosophical values and value categories can be understood, and what empirical relevance can be attributed to it. The empirical focus is on expanding knowledge about the values of those beneficiaries of the actions of social enterprise organizations (SEOs) who are addressed by their social mission but do not themselves demand market services from them. The focus is on the evaluation processes and the knowledge of the SEOs about what the beneficiaries consider valuable.

DFG-Project "Strategic Transformation to Value-Centred Business Models"

We are currently observing an increasing shift in industrial goods companies from product-centric to value-centric business models. By offering comprehensive services and solutions, industrial goods companies are striving to create additional value for their customers that goes beyond the pure product offering. However, companies differ in the implementation and extent of this strategic change. Some companies already offer comprehensive operator models and take over entire business processes for their customers. Others, however, limit themselves to adding value around their own product and offer their customers additional services such as remote maintenance. These changes in business models within companies have often developed over time. Companies often lack the necessary decision-making tools for systematic planning of strategic change. The aim of our research project is therefore to provide companies with support in determining whether, when, and how a shift to value-centered business models makes sense.
