Development of Planning Techniques and Algorithms for Durable Service Planning

The research project deals with the crew scheduling of pilots and cabin crews in scheduled airlines and bus drivers in public transport. The aim is to develop planning approaches and algorithms for robust planning so that the generated crew schedules are less affected by disturbances and short-term changes than before. First, the term robustness is defined and made measurable for the purposes of the research project. A stochastic optimization model will be developed especially for the European service organization in airlines and the German organization in public transport. To solve the models, exact and heuristic procedures will be integrated under a multi-criteria objective. The results will be validated by simulation.
