Application for exchange students

If you would like to spend an exchange semester in Berlin at the Freie Universität please be aware that an exchange is only possible for students from our partner universities! In such case, please get in contact with your local international office for admission requirements and process.

Please note that German skills are required for the application and studies!

Application period: 15.04.-31.05 of each year

Study language: mainly German, individual modules in English

Fees: no participation fees, but general semester fees (approx. € 300)

In order for us to consider your application, all access requirements must be met in full.

According to § 23 Abs. 3 BerlHG, the required academic achievements must have been completed within a Bachelor's degree programme. Therefore, all required ECTS must be part of one Transcript of Records. We do not accept seperate certificates which are not part of your Bachelor's degreee transcript of records.

Only proofs that are listed in the table (link to German website) are accepted. You will find all the prerequisites and valid proofs in the table.

If your studies have been documented in a system other than ECTS, we need a note for the conversion into ECTS!

The signed application must be submitted together with all necessary documents by 31st May at the Freie Universität Berlin or at uni-assist. It is not possible to submit missing documents after that date.

Please do not submit any additional documents such as CVs, work certificates or motivation letters.

NOTE: Since winter semester 2024/2025, a new admission regulation has been valid, which provides an assessment using a points system. Overall, a maximum of 100 selection points can be earned. These are divided into the areas of the (provisional) average grade of the first professionally qualifying university degree (max. 60 points) and ECTS earned beyond the 12 ECTS in the areas of mathematics, statistics and/or empirical research methods as well as in the area of accounting and/or taxation (max. 40 points). Below you find an overview of the admission requirements for the Master program. Please note that we can only accept applications which meet all requirements in full. We can only accept the certificates listed below. We strongly recommend you to consult our German version of the application requirements as legal application documents and further assistance are in German language.
