Replications with Survey Data
(WiSe 25/26)
This course introduces students to the principles and practice of reproducibility and replicability in empirical research. Using the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP)—one of the largest and longest-running household panel surveys worldwide—students will reproduce and replicate published studies with statistical software such as Stata or R. Alongside an introduction to SOEP data and survey methodology, the course emphasizes hands-on exercises in handling complex survey data, writing reproducible code, and applying econometric methods. By reading, understanding, and extending scientific articles, students will strengthen their skills in applied micro-data analysis, survey statistics, and statistical programming. The course provides a practical stepping stone for further academic research and an academic career.
