Prof. Dr. Mona Weiss
Since 2018, I am a Junior Professor of Management and Diversity at the Department of Management at Freie Universität Berlin. After studying Psychology at the Universities of Halle-Wittenberg and Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany and at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, I completed my PhD in Science (Doktor der Wissenschaften) at ETH Zurich, Department of Management, Technology, and Economics (2015). I then received the prestigious Early PostDoc Mobility Grant from the Swiss National Research Foundation and conducted post-doctoral research at the Department of Management and Organizations, Stern School of Business at New York University, USA (2016-2018).
My research lies at the intersection of social psychology and organizational behavior and is concerned with understanding the interplay between organizational structures and employee behavior, the effects of diversity (e.g., age, gender, function and rank) on individuals, groups, and teams as well as organizational and technological change in organizations. A special focus of my research are healthcare teams that consist of multiple professional groups and are characterized by an entrenched functional and status hierarchy. I use a multi-method approach including quantitative and qualitative designs using samples from the field as well as conducting experiments in the lab. Read more about my research.
My work has been published in leading psychological, management, and healthcare journals such as the Journal of Organizational Behavior, The Leadership Quarterly, British Journal of Management, European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology, Work, Aging, and Retirement, Small Group Research, and BMJ Quality and Safety.
